FLUTE

The flute is my favorite of the concert band and orchestra woodwinds.  In addition to its being a nice combination with guitar from the perspective of quality of sound and dynamics, it is also a "C" instrument as is the guitar.  This allows both instruments to read from the same music without any transposition.  If you've been wanting to play with your friends and guitar/piano is not your cup of tea,  perhaps the flute is your instrument.  Additionally, it's one of those instruments that you don't have to leave home without due to its compact size and weight. You'll hear the flute in just about all musical styles: Rock to Classical. For those students enrolled in elementary/middle school band, the recommended book will be that which is used for your school.

I'm pleased to have the "bragging rights" for my flute students: Over the past 30 years, every one of my flute students have achieved

in their respective school bands.
