BANJO

OK, guys.  The study of the banjo is really cool.  Someone once said: "Never follow a banjo player" on stage.  The banjo is really an "up" instrument and like the guitar, you can take it just about any place musically.  Traditionally, we tend to think of the playing sounding like what we would hear in the movie Dueling Banjos---Bluegrass style!  There are lots of players that use this style and it is the most common.  The household name in this style is Earl Scruggs.  However, there are a few other styles and variations.  One of these is the Keith or Melodic style.  You'll hear some of the more progressive players like Bela Fleck using this style.   Classical banjo is a style that was popular a century ago and is becoming more popular.

What can you expect to study at Danyo Music School?  You'll start off in the basic three-finger bluegrass style and move rapidly into playing songs.  Because the banjo is used both as a solo instrument and a back-up one as well,  you'll have a good dose of music theory.  You'll not only know how to play but why you're doing it.
